Hawaii Health Certificate
Strict requirements. Advance planning is essential.
Hawaii is rabies-free and has some of the strictest pet import requirements in the United States. Planning ahead is critical to avoid extended quarantine.
Preparation
- Begin at least 3 months in advance
- Implant ISO-compliant microchip
- Ensure rabies vaccinations are up to date (minimum 2 required)
Rabies Titer (FAVN) Testing
- Blood sample collected 30+ days after rabies vaccine
- Sent to approved lab
- Results may take up to 8 weeks
Pre-Travel Requirements
- Complete flea/tick treatment (10–14 days before arrival)
- Submit Hawaii import forms at least 14 days prior
- Confirm all documentation is complete
Final Health Certificate & Travel
- Schedule final exam within 10 days of arrival
- Receive health certificate
- Travel and present documents upon entry
FAVN Rabies Titer Testing (Required)
- Mandatory for entry into Hawaii
- Helps qualify for the 5-day-or-less quarantine program
- Blood sample collected 30+ days after rabies vaccine
- Results may take up to 8 weeks
Important Notes
- Pets must be at least 6 months old at time of travel
- Additional fees are collected at the quarantine station
- Late or incomplete submissions may result in extended quarantine
