Hawaii Health Certificate

Strict requirements. Advance planning is essential.

Hawaii is rabies-free and has some of the strictest pet import requirements in the United States. Planning ahead is critical to avoid extended quarantine.

Preparation

  • Begin at least 3 months in advance
  • Implant ISO-compliant microchip
  • Ensure rabies vaccinations are up to date (minimum 2 required)

Rabies Titer (FAVN) Testing

  • Blood sample collected 30+ days after rabies vaccine
  • Sent to approved lab
  • Results may take up to 8 weeks

Pre-Travel Requirements

  • Complete flea/tick treatment (10–14 days before arrival)
  • Submit Hawaii import forms at least 14 days prior
  • Confirm all documentation is complete

Final Health Certificate & Travel

  • Schedule final exam within 10 days of arrival
  • Receive health certificate
  • Travel and present documents upon entry

FAVN Rabies Titer Testing (Required)

  • Mandatory for entry into Hawaii
  • Helps qualify for the 5-day-or-less quarantine program
  • Blood sample collected 30+ days after rabies vaccine
  • Results may take up to 8 weeks

Important Notes

  • Pets must be at least 6 months old at time of travel
  • Additional fees are collected at the quarantine station
  • Late or incomplete submissions may result in extended quarantine

Hawaii Health Certificate

  • Hawaii has strict import requirements — please read carefully before your appointment.
  • Final appointment must be scheduled no more than 10 days before your arrival date (island-dependent).
  • We require at least 3 months' notice to assist with the full Hawaii health certificate process.
  • Pets must be at least 6 months of age at the time of travel.
  • Rabies titer (FAVN antibody) test required — allow up to 8 weeks for results.
  • Titer test must be done at least 30 days after the most recent rabies vaccination.
  • Pet must have at least 2 prior rabies vaccinations on record.
  • Treat for fleas and ticks within 10–14 days prior to arrival.
  • Owner is responsible for submitting all import forms to the Hawaii Animal Quarantine Station at least 14 days prior to arrival.
  • Additional fees are due at the quarantine station upon arrival.
  • First-time Hawaii certificate: $650 | Return Hawaii certificate: $300

Please enter your legal name exactly as it appears on your passport/ID. Incorrect names may result in your health certificate being denied for travel.
ISO-compliant microchips are required for Hawaii and most international destinations. If your pet's chip is not ISO-compliant, an additional chip may need to be placed.

Hawaii Vaccination & Testing Requirements

FAVN titer results can take up to 8 weeks. The test must be performed at least 30 days after your pet's most recent rabies vaccine.

A microchip is required for all pets entering Hawaii.

Hawaii Import Form & Quarantine

The owner is responsible for completing and submitting the Hawaii import form to the Animal Quarantine Station. This must be done at least 14 days before your arrival date. Additional fees will be collected at the quarantine station.
