Meet Our Veterinary Team
Dr. Joan Primeau
Owner, DVM
Dr. Joan Primeau is the proud owner of A Pet’s Place Animal Hospital. She grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, and obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia. A friend suggested she work a ski season in Vail, and she’s been in Colorado since! She obtained her veterinary technician degree from Colorado Mountain College and worked as a certified veterinary technician for eight years before pursuing vet school. She graduated from Colorado State University in 2000. Joan purchased the practice in 2008 and then relocated to a new facility in 2013. She enjoys the relationships that she establishes with her patients and their people. Her goal is to provide excellent veterinary care while offering workable treatment solutions. She loves acupuncture and alternative care, geriatric medicine, and surgery. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two sons – doing hot yoga, skiing, mountain biking, and watching soccer. She has two awesome dogs, Chip and Stewart, a feisty cat Mitzi, fish, and a frog.
Dr. Jenelle Vail
DVM
A Colorado native, Jenelle has grown up around animals of all kinds. She spent much of her childhood competing in hunter/jumper shows around the state on her crazy thoroughbred mare, Dolly. Her family also raised chickens and the occasional cow and pig. Most exciting were the different wild creatures her father brought home through his job with the Colorado Division of Wildlife. She helped care for injured birds of prey, raised deer, antelope, elk fawns, and even a passel of possums!
Jenelle graduated from veterinary school in 2003 from Colorado State University and spent the first half of her career working at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. She then spent several years doing relief, where she had a regular schedule at A Pet’s Place Animal Hospital before settling into full-time practice. She is excited to be back with Dr. Joan and the team! Jenelle enjoys working with new puppy and kitten owners, formulating individualized anesthetic protocols, and working up tough cases. Her newest passion is providing a good quality of life to senior patients through a multimodal approach. She loves learning new techniques and therapies to help her patients. She finds the relationships she builds with her four-legged patients and their two-legged friends to be the most rewarding part of her job. When she’s not at work, she loves reading a good book, traveling, cooking, and cuddling with her two daughters, Sydney and Lylah, her dogs, Lucy and Valiant, and when allowed, the cat, Scamper.
Leslie
Practice Manager
Leslie moved to the Boulder area from Nebraska in 2016. Her first job in Colorado was as a Customer Service Representative at a veterinary hospital. She quickly moved up to Technician Assistant and then to Practice Manager. Leslie fell in love with the variety of personalities that pets have and knew that being in the veterinary field was the right for her. Leslie lives in Lyons and has two cats, Little Girl and Carli, and a bunny, Olive-bun.
In her free time, Leslie enjoys sunbathing by the St. Vrain River, camping, rock climbing, road-tripping, baking, and cooking. place
Suzanne
Certified Veterinary Technician
Suzanne graduated from Front Range Community College in 2014 with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology and is a member of the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians. She is also a massage therapist with over 15 years of experience in the field. She grew up in Canada but moved out to Colorado 20 years ago to check out a Buddhist retreat center. She lives in Lyons with her sweet McNab Collie mix, Tashi. She recently became a certified open-water diver and has had underwater adventures in Hawaii and Mexico. She enjoys hiking with Tashi and doing hot yoga.
Kerry
Veterinary Technician
Kerry graduated from the Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. She has worked at A Pet’s Place Animal Hospital since 2005. She brings a vast amount of expertise and compassion for the animals she cares for. In addition to working with animals, she also enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycling, and playing bluegrass music.
Dani
Registered Veterinary Technician
Dani was born in central Florida and lived there until she was 10, when she moved to Colorado. She has always had a strong connection with animals and decided to use that and pursue veterinary medicine. Dani graduated from the Community College of Denver in 2024 with an Associate’s in Veterinary Technology.
Dani prides herself on the connection she is able to make with each of her patients. Connecting with her patients helps her better advocate for their care and support their individual needs. Outside of the work, enjoys spending her free time exploring the outdoors with her 2 dogs, Pompei and Sascha.
Destani
Veterinary Assistant
Destani is a Colorado native, growing up in/around Loveland her entire life. Ever since she was a kid, she has had a huge passion and love for all animals and being able to care for them medically. Before working as a Veterinary Assistant, she worked at a boarding and daycare facility where she spent her time caring for many different dogs and cats.
She is currently going to Penn Foster College. She is working on getting an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology, specifically, so she can work with exotic and marine life in the future. She owns a nutty but sweet cat named Bellatrix, who loves to play all the time. Her hobbies include reading and journaling, traveling, hiking, paddle boarding, and many other outdoor activities.
Aubrey
Veterinary Assistant
Aubrey was born in Fairfield, California, moved to Colorado with her family when she was 4 years old, and has called Colorado home ever since. From a very young age, Aubrey knew that she wanted to work in the veterinary field. She has always had a passion for working with a multitude of different animals, and a great curiosity for the scientific aspect of it. She started her career in the field as a client services representative, and began training as an assistant from there, always striving to learn more. Aubrey is currently pursuing her degree to become a Certified Veterinary Technician, so she can delve even deeper into this field and work even closer with animals.
In her spare time, Aubrey enjoys being outdoors in this amazing state. Hiking, fishing, camping and photography are some of her favorite things to do. She also enjoys staying in at home, hanging out with her 2 wonderful nephews, watching movies and gaming. Her furry family consists of a Dachshund mix named Pirate, a miniature Dachshund named Apollo, and a cat named Nova.

What do you pride yourself in when it comes to veterinary medicine and/or taking care of your patients? I pride myself on always being interested to learn new skills, and using those skills to promote patient care and fear-free experiences for all our animals.
What do you like to do in your free time? Rafting, hiking, reading, sudoku, and cuddling on the couch with my animals.
Brittinie
Veterinary Assistant/Client Care Representative
Brittinie has been in vet medicine for a little over three years. She started as a receptionist and has worked her way up to Veterinary Assistant. Learning on the job has been the best way for her to gain hands on experience. She loves helping animals when they’re in need. For her, watching them grow and age is rewarding as they live the best life possible. The puppy and kitty snuggles are a perk too.
Back at home, Brittinie is a mom of a beautiful two year old girl so on her free time she plays and hangs out with her. As a family they like to go hiking, to the race track, and the lake. When she has some time away from her you can catch her going to country concerts and hanging out with her closest friends!
Amanda
Amanda was born and raised in Colorado. Between her Significant Other and herself, they have three children, five dogs, four ball pythons, and a bearded dragon. They often go hiking and camping together as a family and enjoy staying at home and playing board games together. In her downtime, Amanda enjoys reading books and watching movies that are based on a true story.

Dr. Shannon Jones
DVM
Dr. Jones has been passionate about veterinary medicine from an early age, having grown up helping her father at his veterinary clinic. This early exposure instilled in her a deep love for animals and a commitment to their well-being. Dr. Jones pursued her education at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, where she graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Agricultural Science. 🎓
Dr. Jones takes great pride in providing lifelong family medicine to animals and their owners. Her approach focuses on offering comprehensive care from the moment a new pet is brought home throughout its life and into its senior years. She is dedicated to improving patient health at every stage of life and enjoys building meaningful relationships with pet owners. 🐶🐱💓
🥾⛺ Outside of her professional life, Dr. Jones loves spending time outdoors with her boyfriend and their dogs. They enjoy paddle boarding, hiking, and camping together. When she has some downtime, Dr. Jones can often be found curled up with her cats and a good book. 📖

Katie grew up in Arkansas and Oklahoma and has always loved volunteering and spending time with animals. She moved to Colorado in August with her partner and their dogs, Chip and Sasquatch. Aside from spending time outdoors with her pups and horseback riding, Katie has also been playing the violin for ten years. She enjoys performing with string quartets at weddings, musicals, and other events.
